Some patients need to take an OTC med in addition to an Rx med...to ensure appropriate treatment or to reduce side effects.

For example, OTC laxatives (senna, etc) are often taken with opioids (oxycodone, etc) to help manage opioid-induced constipation. And OTC aspirin 81 mg may be paired with other antiplatelets (clopidogrel, etc) to prevent blood clots in certain high-risk patients.
