Many patients will be asking why they no longer need antibiotics before dental procedures to prevent endocarditis.

The American Heart Association now recommends prophylactic antibiotics for far fewer patients.

The new thinking is that dental procedures rarely cause infective endocarditis. It's more likely to occur from bacteria dislodged by brushing, flossing, and other everyday activities.
