There's confusion about which drugs might cause problems in patients with sulfa allergies.
About 3% of patients develop allergic reactions to sulfonamide antibiotics...sulfamethoxazole, sulfisoxazole, sulfacetamide, etc.
Most of these reactions are mild...rash, itching, or hives. But some patients develop anaphylaxis or other severe reactions.
